Evaluation

For the start of the project I researched 6 different artists to see how different artists have created portrait artists, the particular ones I liked are the comic book style pieces by Raul Allen and Kelsey Drake, I liked the 3D cart sculpture piece by Inglia Och Vi because I thought the design and construction of the piece is really unique. I like the rough style used in Tom Hovey's piece and on the opposite side the tidyness and realism in arnO's piece. The pixel art style by Alejandro Rene Hermandez is what I based my work off for my book cover design.
My first experiment for my book cover design was making a scanned drawing look old and torn by using tools like colour range, texturiser filters and the colour burn blending mode.
I used the end product on the back cover of my book.
My second experiment was replicating the pixel art style of Alejandro Rene Hermandez where I used the grid tool, paint brush and layers to create a pixel art style piece. I then used the image of the front of my book cover.
I spent the remainder of my time working on creating the book cover using movement tools, gradient fills, pictured layers and then adjusting the colours of those layers and adding blurs over some of them to draw focus away from them. I also added a text tool for the title, author and blurb.
I am pleased with my final piece as it consists of objects personal to me and how I presented each item of the piece. If I could change something about the piece, I would change the old papered self portrait on the back cover by doing the same technique but with a different image.
